Important initiatives

Sustainability

Web Summit has reduced plastic by up to four tonnes in accordance with its 2030 Sustainability Strategy by integrating sustainably derived and 100 percent recyclable attendance badges and startup boards. Web Summit has reduced single-use plastic over the last four years by introducing alternatives such as recyclable cardboard cups for water at free water refill stations throughout the venues, glass bottles of water on stages and in lounges, and cardboard cartons of water sold by onsite food and drink vendors.

Impact

Web Summit’s Impact initiative, which debuted in 2020, brings together incredible startups working to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as investors who focus their investments on companies, organizations, and funds that generate positive, measurable social and environmental impact. So far, 190+ Impact startups have confirmed their attendance at WS22, covering industries such as: – Sustainability and cleantech – AgronetPro, PlanetWatch, Carbcoin, Descycle

– Philanthropy and social good – Homes4All, Find Others, Chezuba, Cordial World – Medical technology and pharmaceuticals – VoxCell BioInnovation, IMcoMET, Beesers, Cerebra

Women in technology

This year, Toptal will collaborate with Web Summit to organize the Women in Tech Lounge, which will feature roundtables, masterclasses, speeches, and meetings. Since its inception in 2015, Web Summit has experienced an exceptional surge in female participation, rising from 42% in 2016 to 50.5 percent in 2021. For the first time, more women than men attended Web Summit in November 2021.
