A year earlier, after announcement of coming of Windows 8, people started waiting for it and as soon as developer and Beta versions came, anxious people started installing it but as we know Beta versions come up with lot of problems and bugs.

As those users who are using windows8 Beta version showed a consumer preview that their DVD/CD drive isn’t appearing on their screens, this is a major bug in Beta version of Windows 8, but there is nothing that cannot be fixed, so here in this tutorial I’m going to show you how to get your DVD/CD ROM

You need to follow exactly these steps, instructed as follow:

  • Run command prompt but you must login admin mode. For this type cmd in metro UI & press ctrl+shift+enter to get the cmd Window
  • OR in Desktop , just move the cursor to bottom left and right click to get access to various System management tools and from their choose Command Prompt (Admin)
  • When entered Command Prompt window, type the following and press Enter:
  • reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000001

  • If you have more then one cd/dvd room type
  • reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000001
  • reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000002

After you are done with all these steps, you will need to restart your computer, once your computer is logged on again you will be able to see your DVD/CD drive appearing.
